Kate was the final presenter and she explored Health-Related Fitness Assessment. It is related to

PLAY and physical literacy. There are 3 components of fitness that are affected by habitual physical activities

1.aerobic functioning

2. body composition (height weight, waist circumference)

3. muscular strength and flexibility

Why do we assess fitness?

1. As a formative assessment

a. To teach fitness concepts

b. Goal settings

c. Helping students develop and follow a personal fitness plan

2.As a summative assessment

a. To monitor fitness levels in the population

b. For intervention or funding.

The Principals of HRFA are:

1. Individual process not comparison

2. Students should be aware of the assessment

3. Students should be taught to test their own fitness

4. Focus on progress, not performance

How is HRFA Reportied

1. fitness scores should not be used as grades on report cards.

2. aasses students' ability to assess themselves, interpret their results and make a fitness plan

Modifications for HFRA

1. Complete some activies on fitness test, with modificaiotns on others

2. Preteach skills

3. Substitute individual goals for certain activities

4. Test in an alterantive environment

5. Use AT

6. Partners or peer tutors

If the disability is very severe: measure the extent of the student's involvment.

Fitness assessment should be fun and encoured the use of student leader student leaders, circuitls, staff should be assessed to, choice, music

There are 2 types of Referenced Fitness Tests:

1. Norm-referenced fitenss test. Used up into the 70’s, student was referenced against the normal for that population.

2. Criterion-referenced fitness tests: Today we use these tests that are referenced against the level required for good health for this age

Kate finished her presentation discussing common HFRA tests including:

1. Euro-fit

2. ALPHA Health related fitness test batterhy

3. In Canada

a. Sport-Fit: A holistic approach that assessess. 1. daily behavior 2..motiviation and confidencec 3.knowledge and understanding and 4. physical competence

b. Canadian Assessment of Physical Literacy

c.Brockport Physical Fitness Test: a criterion referenced test that includes activities for studetns with particular disabilities. It also provides a process to individualize the test for students with other disabilities.
